Alongside the Antelope House and the Director’s Villa, the South America House is one of the oldest buildings from the zoo’s founding period and is an indispensable and defining part of the overall ensemble. Surrounded by trees, the building is modeled on a Russian Orthodox church.

ZOOQUARIUMDESIGN is responsible for the execution planning and awarding of the construction work, as well as the planning for the interior design and is carrying out the core refurbishment of the listed South America House, which was used as a bird house. In future, it is to be given a new lease of life and become home to various South American animal species. Completely gutted and renovated, a planted free-flight and walking area is to be created in the center, from the basement floor to the ETFE foil roof.
