One of the principal highlights of the tour through Hagenbeck’s Tierpark is the Onager (Equus hemionus onager) Exhibit, which houses these highly endangered animals all year round. Highly complex modifications to the enclosure’s terrain ensure that the animal are visible from vista points around the exhibit, setting them up in different panoramas. This gives the visitor the feeling that the onager is kept in the same environment as the camels on display. In reality, invisible moats separate the two different animal species. Feeding zones located in the authentic rock formations, areas in which the animals can run freely, and shaded sections under overhanging cliffs are also provided. Finally, different circuits provide the animals enough space to get away from each other if necessary.
