For a client from the United Arab Emirates, the ZOOQUARIUMDESIGN planning team developed a worldwide new concept of a “Swimming Zoo” to which a conservation centre was attached. In addition to the unique and recreational value through an attractive overall design, the concept includes an unprecedented animal presentation in which the enclosure boundaries under water seem to disappear.

When selecting animals and designing the enclosures, particular attention was paid to the extreme climatic and cultural conditions. The aim was not only to present a unique concept, but also to exceed the high European and American standards in zoo animal husbandry in order to enable the institution to participate in international conservation breeding programs in the future.

The apparently direct contact of the visitors with the animals in the “Swimming Zoo” is an essential unique selling point for the future operator.
