For a client from the United Arab Emirates, the ZOOQUARIUMDESIGN planning team developed a globally new “swimming zoo” concept, to which a nature conservation center was attached. In addition to the unique leisure and recreational value through an attractive overall design, the concept includes an unprecedented animal presentation in which enclosure boundaries seem to disappear under water.

When selecting the animals and designing the enclosure, particular attention was paid to the extreme climatic and cultural conditions. The aim was not only to present a unique concept, but also to exceed the high European and American standards in zoo animal husbandry in order to enable the institution to participate in international conservation breeding programs in the future.

The seemingly direct contact between the visitors and the animals is unique in the “Swimming Zoo” and a key unique selling point for the future operator.
