The goal of this project was to redesign the existing outdoor exhibit for Australian mammals and birds, following the historic “Hagenbeck standard” of a moat exhibit. Additionally, a new warm animal house was required, which was to serve the visitor as an attractive and cosy shelter on rainy days. In order to allow the client to have a number of options in holding and managing different animal species, an attractive water moat exhibit was built, which can be divided outside the visitors’ view into two separate parts. The new indoor area is also divided into a walk-through exhibit with different free-ranging Australian birds and wallabies (Macropus rufogriseus), with an open window giving the visitor the option to view the Red Kangoroos (Macropus rufus) without any barriers.
