Giraffe enclosure Cologne Zoo
Due to the amendment of the husbandry guidelines for giraffes, Cologne Zoo is planning to modernize the entire existing facility in a sustainable and future-oriented manner.
The measure is based on the Master Plan 2030 developed jointly by Cologne Zoo and ZOOQUARIUMDESIGN .
The association with gazelles/antelopes remains as in the stock.
The new building includes a large free-range hall with a natural floor, which offers a variety of housing options.
As an innovation, almost the entire building façade will be able to be opened completely to the outdoor enclosure via sectional doors, so that the interior and exterior spaces are homogeneously connected by a barrier-free transition.
The outdoor enclosure will be enlarged by laying the barrier-free asphalt visitor path, so that the outdoor enclosure will be 2,300 m² larger when completed.
ZOOQUARIUMDESIGN has been commissioned with the general planning for this project and is supporting the project from the architecture to the technology right through to the opening.
